To know what God wants from us, you need to keep reading your bible (this will also ensure that you don't fall prey to false teachers spreading false doctrines). The King James Version (KJV) is most often recommended as being accurate in translation. Don't rely on pastors and ministers alone. Not every church preaches or even believes in the literal truth of scriptures. Everything Jesus preached, was based on us being as holy as possible in our lives.  Why would anyone not want to be good (anyone who wants to be bad is under the influence of satan). There are many lessons for us in the bible and reading the bible and getting to know it, is part of your relationship with Jesus and Father God.  That way you will stay on the path of righteousness and help yourself be worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven.  Don't just read it however, apply it to your life.

Another good source of help is Strong's Concordance, which can be found online or in book form and which numbers every word in the bible and gives the meaning, to help understand scripture.

Reading various bible versions may help you really understand the Word of God more fully.  This may be because the bible has been translated from an original, so to ensure you get the full meanings rather than relying on any one version, which may have slightly changed it. Having said that the KJV is supposed to be the most accurate English translation and should be trusted as such.

So not having a bible to hand is no excuse, in this age of technology you can access scripture regardless. You can buy pocket-sized versions or download bible apps to your phone so that you can access the bible wherever you are!
